Leeds Trinity North Yorkshire Youth Games 2009
2500 young people descended to Ampleforth College for the 10th Annual Leeds Trinity North Yorkshire Youth Games.
The event saw young people from all over North Yorkshire and York attending to have the honour of representing their district in their chosen sport. There were 17 different sports and 23 Trophies up for grabs, and the competition was intense but there was a sense of fun running through out the day and some great displays of sporting prowess by the participants involved.
Everyone who competed did their District proud. The young people competing enjoyed the day which is ultimately what the day is about. Hockey player Ellie Henderson, from Harrogate, said “Today is a really fun day, a chance to meet friends and play hockey. It’s joyful to see all the other teams and we are looking forward to finding out who wins.”
This year for the first time saw a Leeds Trinity become the Headline sponsor of the Games and Dr Freda Bridge Principle of Leeds Trinity said, “It is really excellent for Leeds Trinity to be able to sponsor this event, which fits in with our mission being a sports and education focussed event and celebrating the success of youngsters.”
This year also saw a number of other commercial partners support the Youth Games including Yorkshire County Cricket Club, The RAF, Up and Running and Hardgear Clothing. Who without their support the young people wouldn’t have this fantastic opportunity to compete at the games and showcase their talent.
Also building on the 2008 Youth Games BBC Radio York were providing live coverage throughout the day, and this commitment by the Commercial partners, has allowed the wider North Yorkshire Sports Partnership to put on this fantastic event.
