ADULT SWIMMING CLASSES

We are committed to providing a well established and progressive swimming development scheme with lessons for everyone from babies through to adults.  We aim to provide a quality service by:

  • Using qualified ASA swimming teachers
  • Offering a wide range of classes 
  • Using quality equipment during the lessons
  • Ensuring that all learners receive 45 minutes of teacher contact time for all lessons
  • The swim scheme is supported by the ASA award scheme
  • Ensuring that everyone on our waiting list is contacted to arrange their new class before joining the swim scheme
   
   
ADULT SWIMMING LESSONS

Adult swimming classes take place on Monday afternoons and Tuesday afternoons and evenings.  Duration is 45 minutes.  Adult classes are informed with development and progression at your own pace.  There are 4 main categories:

Beginners - Monday 2.00pm, Tuesday 2.15pm & 6.15pm 'Never too old to learn' is the motto of these classes!  They are held in the shallow end of the main pool, with some access to the teaching pool.
Improvers - Monday 2.00pm, Tuesday 2.15pm & 6.15pm These classes are held for adults who are comfortable with deeper water and adjusting to swimming lengths.
Advanced - Monday 2.45pm, Tuesday 2.15pm & 6.15pm For adults who are confident with swimming lengths and using the deeper water
Advanced Plus - Monday 2.45pm, Tuesday 7.00pm For adults who are competent at swimming lengths.  Building stamina, stroke technique and skills.
   
   

Classes are held during term time.  Enrolment for the following term takes place at the end of each term.  If you are interested, please pick up a waiting list form from reception and you will be contacted in time for the new term.

 
Beginners
Number in class - 8
Pre requisite - None

Aims:

  • Develop and build confidence
  • Submersion with breath control
  • Retrieve sinkers from pool floor
  • To be able to perform a free float, horizontal and vertical
  • To perform vertical and horizontal rotation - without aids

Optional - Adult Skill Level 1

 

 

 

 

  • Introduce mushroom floats
  • To regain a controlled standing position from a free float, prone and supine
  • Introduce to push and glides, prone and supine
  • Introduce to basic arm action, prone or supine
  • To swim 5m across pool unaided, prone or supine
Improvers
Number in class - 10
Pre requisites:
  • Stand confidently from a prone and supine position
  • Swim 5m across pool unaided, prone or supine
  • Submerge with breath control

Aims:

  • Introduce and develop confidence in deep water
  • Deep water entries, - jump, sitting dives
  • Introduce and develop the three main strokes
  • Develop submersion

Optional - Adult Skill Level 1 & 2

 

 

 

  • To  float, prone and supine
  • Basic arm action, prone or supine

 

 

  • Develop to push and glides, prone and supine
  • Introduce treading water and sculling
  • To swim 10m unaided, prone or supine
Advanced
Number in class - 10
Pre requisites:
  • Completely confident in deep water
  • Safe unaided entry into deep water, steps or jumps
  • Competent in the 3 main strokes for 25m

Aims:

  • Introduce and develop confidence in deep water
  • Deep water entries, - jump, sitting dives
  • Introduce and develop the three main strokes
  • Develop submersion

Optional - Adult Skill Level  3 - 6

 

 

 

  • Confident with swimming lengths
  • Basic understanding of skills - treading water and sculling

 

 

  • Develop to push and glides, prone and supine
  • Introduce treading water and sculling
  • To swim 10m unaided, prone or supine
Advanced Plus
Number in class - 15
Pre requisites:
  • Competent at swimming lengths
  • Knowledge of swim strokes

Aims:

  • Build stamina
  • Continue developing stroke techniques
  • Continue developing water skills
